Traveling to Machu Picchu on your own requires careful itinerary planning. In this regard, traveling by train is one of the most comfortable and safest ways to reach Machu Picchu Pueblo without complications.

Keep in mind that most tourists arrive in Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, by train because there is no direct access road for private vehicles. The train journey from Ollantaytambo Station takes approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes, depending on the selected service and departure time.

Which companies should you book with?

There are two main companies offering train travel to Machu Picchu: PeruRail and Inca Rail. Both provide services with different comfort levels, panoramic windows, and onboard experiences. Therefore, when choosing among the different Machu Picchu Tours, it is important to check which train type, schedules, transfers, and services are included in the package.

PeruRail.- It is the company with the widest variety of schedules and departure points. Its main tourist services are Expedition, Vistadome, Vistadome Observatory, and the luxury Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train.

How much does the train to Machu Picchu cost?

The price of the train to Machu Picchu depends on the company, route, service, travel date, season, and availability. Fares may change in real time, so it is advisable to check the final price in the booking system before making a purchase.

  • PeruRail offers Expedition, Vistadome, Vistadome Observatory, Hiram Bingham, and bimodal options that combine bus and train travel. PeruRail also operates the Local Train, which is intended primarily for residents of communities located along the railway. Peruvian passengers may use this service only when seats are available and the company’s requirements are met.
