FULL-DAY PALLAY PUNCHU MOUNTAIN TOUR
The excursion to Pallay Punchu is ideal for travelers who wish to discover one of the most unique and less crowded natural landscapes in the Cusco region. During this adventure, we will travel through traditional Andean communities, vast highland plains, vividly colored mountains, and enjoy impressive views of Langui Lagoon.
CUSCO – CUSIPATA – LAYO
We will begin our adventure at approximately 4:00 a.m. with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We will board our private transportation and travel for approximately two hours toward the town of Cusipata.
Upon arrival, we will stop to enjoy a nutritious breakfast and restore our energy before continuing the journey. After breakfast, we will travel toward the Marangani and Sicuani areas before taking the turnoff leading to the community of Layo.
Along the way, we will observe traditional communities, cultivated fields, extensive Andean plains, mountains, and landscapes characteristic of the southern highlands of Cusco.
The total journey from Cusco to the starting point of the hike takes approximately four hours, depending on road and traffic conditions.
START OF THE HIKE – PALLAY PUNCHU MOUNTAIN
Upon arrival at the trailhead, our guide will provide a brief introduction to the route, trail conditions, and important safety recommendations.
We will begin an uphill hike lasting approximately 50 minutes. The trail includes steep sections and uneven terrain, so we will walk at a pace suitable for the group and take short breaks to rest and adjust to the altitude.
During the hike, we will enjoy magnificent high-Andean landscapes. Depending on the season, we may observe llamas, alpacas, sheep, native birds, and small communities whose main activities are agriculture and livestock farming.
As we ascend, we will begin to see the mountain’s distinctive geological formations and intense natural colors. Finally, we will reach the main viewpoint of Pallay Punchu, where we will admire its natural stripes in shades of ochre, red, green, gray, and purple.
These lines and shapes resemble the patterns of a traditional Andean poncho, which is why the mountain is known as Pallay Punchu. Its striking relief was formed naturally through geological processes and erosion over time.
VISIT TO PALLAY PUNCHU
We will spend approximately one hour at the site, enjoying the scenery, listening to our guide’s explanation, and taking photographs from the permitted viewpoints.
From the higher area, we will also enjoy an extraordinary panoramic view of Langui Lagoon, surrounded by mountains, grasslands, and vast Andean plains.
Our guide will provide information about the geological formation of the mountain, the importance of the area to local communities, and the characteristics of the flora and fauna found in this ecosystem.
Due to the altitude, we recommend walking slowly, staying hydrated, and following the guide’s instructions throughout the visit.
DESCENT – LUNCH – RETURN TO CUSCO
After enjoying the landscape, we will begin the descent toward the point where our transportation will be waiting. The return hike takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
We will then board our private vehicle and travel back toward Cusipata. Upon arrival, we will enjoy lunch prepared with local ingredients, providing an excellent opportunity to recover our energy after the hike.
After lunch, we will begin the return journey to Cusco. Arrival is expected at approximately 5:00 p.m., although the schedule may vary depending on road conditions, weather, and the group’s pace.
Finally, we will transfer you to your hotel, bringing this unforgettable Pallay Punchu Mountain experience to an end.
