DAY 1 :Iquitos – Cumaceba Lodge: Welcome to the Kingdom of the Amazon

Your adventure begins with a pickup at the airport or your hotel. We will start with a fascinating walking tour through the historic center of Iquitos, where you will step back into the golden age of the rubber boom while exploring architectural treasures such as the iconic Iron House (Casa de Fierro), designed by Gustave Eiffel, the legendary Hotel Palace, Casa Cohen, and Casa Fitzcarraldo.

From our private pier, we will depart by boat along the Itaya River toward the mighty Amazon River, the largest river in the world by volume of water. During the journey, you will admire the impressive bridge over the Nanay River, the largest bridge in Peru. As we travel downstream, you will see authentic riverside communities that continue to live according to the ancestral rhythms of the Amazon.

We will arrive at Cumaceba Amazon Lodge, your home in the heart of the rainforest. After settling into your cozy cabin, enjoy a delicious lunch featuring traditional flavors of the region.

In the afternoon, venture into the pristine rainforest on a guided walk, where you will discover medicinal plants and towering trees, with the unique opportunity to interact with and feed squirrel monkeys living freely in their natural environment. Weather permitting, enjoy an unforgettable sunset reflected on the waters of the Amazon River.

After dinner, get ready for a nighttime canoe adventure through the mysterious Shanshococha Lagoon. We will search for caimans using flashlights while the enchanting sounds of the rainforest surround you.

Back at the lodge, our guide will share fascinating Amazonian legends and stories.

DAY 2 : Cumaceba Lodge: Fishing, Dolphins, Rescue Center & Nighttime Mysteries

Wake up with the first rays of the Loreto sun and set out on a morning birdwatching excursion to observe Amazonian birds in their natural habitat. After an energizing breakfast, it’s time for adventure!

Experience the thrill of recreational piranha fishing, along with the opportunity to catch sardines and catfish. Using traditional fishing techniques, you will feel like a true Amazonian riverside local.

Then comes one of the most anticipated moments: searching for the Amazon’s pink and gray river dolphins. These fascinating freshwater cetaceans are among the region’s most treasured wildlife. We will return to the ecolodge to enjoy a typical buffet-style Amazonian lunch.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Neyser Rescue Center, a conservation project where you will learn about different species of monkeys, adorable sloths, and other rescued animals living in a semi-wild environment.

After dinner, embark on a night jungle walk to listen to the sounds of the tropical rainforest and observe frogs, tarantulas, and nocturnal insects with flashlights. An immersive experience that will awaken all your senses.

DAY 3 : Cumaceba Lodge – Iquitos: The Hoatzin & Yagua Native Community

Embark on a morning canoe excursion through Shansho Lagoon to observe the legendary and colorful Shansho (Hoatzin), a prehistoric-looking bird unique to the world. After the excursion, enjoy breakfast at the lodge.

After breakfast, immerse yourself in the culture of the Yagua Native Community, where you will learn about their traditional clothing, ancestral dances, native language, and handicrafts.

As part of this unique experience, you will learn how to use the blowgun, a traditional Amazonian hunting weapon.

We will then return to the lodge for lunch.

At the scheduled time, we will begin our journey back to the city of Iquitos. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the airport by private vehicle or to your hotel by motokar, one of the most authentic and characteristic forms of transportation in Iquitos.
