Itinerary
CUSCO – TAUCA – PUCAJASA PASS – HUCHUY QOSQO – LAMAY – CUSCO
The Huchuy Qosqo Full Day Trek begins with pick up from your hotel in Cusco at 6am.
After driving for 1-hour in your private transport through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and along the banks of the Piuray lagoon, you will arrive at the start of the hike in the small Quechua community of Tauca at 3,762 m / 12,343 ft.
The first section of the trail winds up a dirt track for 3-hours until it reaches the Pucajasa Mountain Pass at 4,393 m / 14,413 ft. From the summit, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of the Urubamba valley and the majestic snow-capped peak of Apu Veronica.
After traversing the 200 meter long pass, we will descend down onto a restored Inca Trail to the small Andean community of Pukamarca at 4,010m / 13,153 ft. Along the way the surrounding egology begins to change, as you leave behind the treeless highlands of the glacial mountains and journey down into lush green wooded valleys.
Once you have followed the trail for a further 3-hours, you’ll arrive at the archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo at 3,688 m / 12,099 ft. The Inca ruins are situated on an agricutural plateau, surrounding by stepped terraces. Its imposing architecture includes a large open ceremonial center, the King’s palace, and the temple of water. From here you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley and the Vilcanota River below. Your guide will take you on a journey through its rich history, whilst gifting you the chance to explore the ruins and eat the lunch box we have prepared for you.
Finally you’ll descend down the zig-zag trail to the town of Lamay at 2,938 m / 9,639 ft, where you’ll be met by your driver and private car, who will transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco.
