Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Transfer to Wasaí Tambopata Lodge
  • Day 2 : Macaw Clay Lick Excursion
  • Day 3 : Transfer to Puerto Maldonado

DAY 1 : Puerto Maldonado – Transfer to Wasai Tambopata Lodge – Night Walk.

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to Wasaí Maldonado Ecolodge, where you will enjoy a tropical welcome drink and receive a brief explanation of the journey.

We will then begin an approximately two-hour trip to Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. The journey starts with a 47-kilometre drive along a paved road, followed by 17 kilometres on an unpaved route that passes through local farms and primary rainforest.

The road ends at a small port on the Tambopata River, where our motorboat will be waiting to take us approximately 20 minutes downstream toward Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. A packed lunch will be provided along the way.

During the journey, we will have the opportunity to observe several bird species and, with some luck, families of capybaras, the largest rodents in the world, as well as caimans and other wildlife.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and accommodated at the lodge. In the evening, we will take an introductory night walk to learn about the tropical rainforest ecosystem and observe and listen to insects, bats, frogs and, perhaps, encounter some nocturnal mammals.

We will then return to the lodge for dinner. The diverse sounds of the rainforest will accompany us during our first night in the Amazon.

Overnight at Wasaí Tambopata Lodge.

Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner.

DAY 2 :Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick | Ethnobotanical Walk | Caiman Spotting.

We will wake up early at 4:30 a.m. to begin a 60-minute boat ride upstream to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Along the way, we will enjoy beautiful natural scenery and observe wildlife along the riverbanks.

Upon arrival, weather permitting, we will witness one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in the Amazon: hundreds of parrots and several species of macaws gathering to feed on the mineral-rich clay. This is truly an unforgettable experience. Breakfast will be served while we wait for the macaws to arrive.

By mid-morning, we will return to Wasaí Tambopata Lodge. Cruising through the Tambopata National Reserve provides excellent opportunities to spot capybaras, tapirs, monkeys and, with some luck, jaguars.

Upon arrival at the lodge, you may relax in the hammocks or swim in the Tambopata River. Guests may also choose to go kayaking on the river (*) or try fishing for some of the approximately 250 fish species found in its waters.

After lunch, we will take a short 1-kilometre ethnobotanical walk to learn about the local plants and their role within the rainforest ecosystem. You will discover medicinal plants and learn about the different ways they are used by native communities.

Along the trail, we may see walking palm trees, sacred kapok trees known as lupunas, hollow trees, and trees inhabited by ants and other wildlife.

At dusk, we will board the boat once again for a nighttime caiman-spotting excursion.

Overnight at Wasaí Tambopata Lodge.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

(*) Adventure activities such as kayaking and zip-lining have an additional cost of $35.00 per passenger.

DAY 3 : Return to Puerto Maldonado.

You will wake up to a beautiful sunrise in the rainforest before departing from the lodge. After breakfast, you will have free time until your transfer to Puerto Maldonado.

Depending on your departure flight time, you may enjoy the facilities of our hotel in Puerto Maldonado, including the swimming pool, bar, and magnificent views. You may also take a walk around the town to purchase souvenirs, as the main square is located just one block from the hotel.

Meals included: Breakfast.

  • The dry season months between April to December are the best time to come and visit Cusco. During those days the possibility of rain is very little, so the roads are not swampy and the landscapes can be better to enjoy and takes the best pictures. On the other hand, the months with the most rain are January, February and March.

  • The coldest season in Cusco are in the months from May to July. During this time the sun is strong in the day, but once it goes down or you spend much time in the shade, it can get very cold. It can go below zero at night, so warm clothes and Jackets are necessary to bring during these months.

A very personal experience

Our guide and driver could not have been more helpful. The bus was just for us but was modern, clean and tidy. The visits to the archaeological sites and the weavers were fascinating and breaks were timed around our needs. I can't recommend this outing too highly.

Sacred Valley, Machu Pichu, Rainbow Mountain

We spent 3 full days with Domingo combining the 2-day Sacred Valley/Machu Pichu tour with 1-day Rainbow Mountain, both originated in Cusco. The entire trip was awesome! Domingo provided everything we could as and more for our small group. He was punctual, helpful, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to travel with. His experience and local knowledge was evident as he (and our drivers) guided us across and through these cultural and geographic spectacles. Domingo provided insight we couldn't have achieved on our own, while giving us our space to explore and enjoy the surrounding at our own pace. Domingo also provided technical assistance if required, such as assisting us with train schedules. Domingo help make this trip a marvelous and memorable adventure..

An unforgettable tour

Excellent planning and accompaniment of the whole team. A lot of professionalism on the part of agents and guides. The only thing we didn't like was the little lunch option. While the buffet was optional, there were no other options either or told us in any previous village if we wanted to buy our lunch beforehand. We were practically forced to buy that lunch which by the way we found expensive.

Above and Beyond! The Best Way to See Peru

Our 14-day trip to Peru with Machu Picchu Valjes was absolutely seamless from start to finish. Traveling to a new continent with children where there is a language barrier can be daunting, but this team made us feel completely at home. From the moment we landed until the moment we departed, we had professional, prompt guides and drivers by our side.
