How to Organize a Trip to Machu Picchu

1.-How to get to Machu Picchu

If you like hiking and adventure, you can take the famous Inca Trail, the Salkantay Trail, the Inca Jungle Trail, or a hike through the Lares Valley that also reaches Machu Picchu through a route through the Andes of the Sacred Valley.

4.-When to go and what is the best time

The best time to visit Machu Picchu is the dry season which starts from April to November. However, sometimes you can have bad weather due to climate change since Machu Picchu is located in the high jungle. It is recommended to visit Cusco in the month of June since it is the month of its anniversary and cultural parades are organized and above all the celebration of the Inti Raymi (festival of the sun) is carried out.

5.-What do I need to bring to Machu Picchu

To visit Machu Picchu you should consider bringing the following items:

  1. Take your passport and your identity document.
  2. Change currency to soles upon arrival in Peru.
  3. It is essential to wear good non-slip shoes with a thick sole.
  4. If you visit Cusco and Machu in the rainy season, it is important to bring waterproof clothing, a poncho, or an umbrella.
  5. It is important that you bring sunscreen and also a repellent against mosquitoes.
  6. If you are going to go on trekking tours, take some good walking sticks.
  7. Wear a thick jacket, wool gloves, a scarf, and a wool cap, for the dry season, since it is very cold at night and early in the morning.
